Last weekend, we headed to my parent’s lake house to celebrate the long weekend and our engagement. My mom planned a huge weekend-long engagement party, and we invited all of our friends and family to come down to their lake house for a fun weekend on the water. We had the best time. It was like a mini-vacation, and I was desperately in need of it. In last week’s post, I shared How to Pack for a Weekend at the Lake, and I gave you guys a peek inside my suitcase for all the looks I was planning to bring. So I thought I would share a continuation of last week’s post to show you what to wear for a weekend at the lake, plus I’ll share all the fun details for our engagement party with our favorite people.

Brandon and I left on Thursday night so we could help with setting everything up on Friday, and we needed to pick up my bestie from the airport. Liz and I have been best friends since college, and now that she lives in Dallas we don’t get to see each other as often as we would like. Especially when we were used to living with each other for two years. So, getting to hang out with her all weekend was so awesome!
Friday we finished the last minute details to get ready for Saturday, since that’s when everyone would be arriving. On Saturday, I wore this cute little off the shoulder top with khaki shorts. I paired them with my favorite wedges for spring, and this adorable straw fedora that I found at Wal-Mart! I stumbled across this hat last week when I went to buy sunscreen, and I knew I had to snag it! I got so many compliments on it! This look felt so fun and summery!
Saturday we had this huge spread for lunch! We had chicken salad, macaroni salad, seven layer salad, cookies, brownies, sliders, and of course, Sangria!
My mom picked up the cutest little drink station with red and white sangria, and these adorable pineapple glasses!
Cute glasses make everything taste better, right?
All of our closest friends and family came for lunch and we ate sooo much food, y’all. It was so great.
After lunch, we headed down to the boathouse for some fun on the water. We thought we were going to jump on the boat, but after we changed into our swimsuits we realized the guys had left on the boat without us! So we just enjoyed some sun on the dock!
I am really loving the palm leaf trend right now. When I found this swimsuit cover up, I was so excited because it was so tropical and fun! Palm leaves in general make me feel like I should be lounging at a fancy resort, cocktail in hand. I pretty much felt like a resort at my parents’ lake house because it is so nice there.
We finally got to head out on the boat, and it was so nice being on the water! I love feeling the breeze blowing in my hair and seeing the water sparkling in the sun. Being near any body of water makes my soul so happy. When we got back from the boat, we all just hung out and enjoyed our time together before we had a a low country boil for dinner in the backyard. My dad bought this HUGE pot, like big enough for an entire restaurant to have shrimp, and we filled it with shrimp, potatoes, corn, and sausage. It was amazing. We also had margaritas, and finished it off with pound cake!
On Sunday, we had an awesome brunch complete with an omelette bar AND a biscuit bar. It was sooo good.
My dad finally got to break in his griddle on the outdoor kitchen, and made omelettes for everyone with fresh eggs from my Mei-Mei’s chickens! So delish! We also had waffles, chocolate syrup, all kinds of jellies, hashbrown casserole, mimosas and lots of fresh fruit. It was quite the spread.
My mom had the idea for a biscuit bar at brunch and I thought that was the cutest, most Southern thing ever. It turned out so well, and was sooo yummy! She also picked up that adorable Flamingo three-tiered plate, and I thought that was the most fabulous piece of serving ware from the whole party.
After brunch, we proposed to our bridal party. Brandon asked his friends to be his groomsman with a bottle of Jack Daniels, because, well, who can say no to that? I created a little tag to hang off the bottle, and I thought they turned out so great. The guys were so excited. I think we’re going to have a great group for our wedding.
I gave the girls the cutest Bridesmaid Proposal boxes with all sorts of goodies inside. I’m going to be writing a blog post with a DIY for these, so I’m not going to reveal them just yet. I also have one more to mail out to another bridesmaid who wasn’t able to attend, so I don’t want to ruin the surprise!
I wore this really tropical dress to brunch. I bought this dress in the regular womens’ section, but as I’ve been writing this post and looking for the link to share with you guys, it turns out it’s actually a maternity dress 😂. I actually got the dress out of my suitcase (no, I haven’t unpacked yet!) and found the tag that said maternity. Isn’t that crazy? It was literally in the front of the store with all the new arrivals, not in the maternity section, nor was it labeled maternity except in tiny writing on the tag…But you know what? I got so many compliments on this dress and it was super cute, so I’m just going to rock it. Sometimes there are happy accidents. It looked so cute with my straw bag! I’m obsessed with this giant tassel, y’all. I wasn’t going to buy this bag, because I was going to find something a little bit cheaper, but I finally just had to give in and go buy it, because I knew it would be perfect for summer.
Almost everyone left Sunday afternoon, so we spent the rest of the day hanging out at the boathouse, going out on the boat, and riding jet skis.
On Monday, we had to head back home to pick up our pups and get back to reality. I felt like I had the post-vacation blues because we had so much fun with our family and friends. It was so nice getting to spend the weekend with all of our favorite people.
I had to include this dress, because I am obsessed with the print, and I had to really work hard to get this dress y’all. It’s from VICCI collection and if you’ve ever tried to buy something that’s super popular there, you know that it takes a lot of dedication to get the item you want. I had to get on the email list three times for this dress, when I finally got it when it restocked. It’s so pretty and flowy! The back is still a little low, but it’s just so gorgeous.
Also, aren’t these flamingo pillows the cutest? My mom decorated this porch so bright and cheerful, it felt like I should be in Palm Beach somewhere!
I’m so grateful to my parents for throwing us such a fabulous party to celebrate our engagement. We enjoyed such a fun weekend with our favorite people. It was so nice to get away for a long weekend and spend some time in the sun. I hope this gives you some inspiration for what to wear to the lake and thanks for letting me spill all of the fun details from our engagement party!
